Mission

The Manitoba Writers' Guild's mission is to encourage, develop, promote and celebrate writers and writing, to support the freedom to read and to write, and to advocate for the well-being of writers.

Description

The Manitoba Writers' Guild is a provincial arts service organization representing professional and emerging writers in Manitoba.

History

The Manitoba Writers' Guild was founded in August 1981 in Aubigny, Manitoba by a group of writers who were interested in forming an organization that could provide programs and services to Manitoba writers. That small group eventually made the decision to create a formal, not-for-profit, charitable organization with an office, staff and programming for writers at all stages of their writing career. Our founding members include: Alexandre Aprimoz, David Arnason, Sandra Birdsell, Kate Bitney, Elizabeth Carriere, Dennis Cooley, Victor Enns, Patrick Friesen, Smaro Kamboureli, Shirley Kitchen, Robert Kroetsch, Mhari Mackintosh, Valerie Reed, Al Reimer, Michael Rennie, Jacqui Smyth, Andris Taskans, and Dave Williamson.
