The Forum Art Institute (Centre) endeavours to develop and encourage art appreciation and artistic enlightenment. As a registered charity we provide this service to the community through various approaches of art instruction and awareness. Our instructors excel in developing the full artistic potential of each student who wants to participate in exploring their own artist within.

We are dedicated to enhancing art comprehension by exposure to history, global cultures and styles of the visual arts. Students can participate from seven years old and onwards, from all backgrounds and all cultures to create new forms & ideas that portray the personality of each individual and stimulate the imagination. Students' innovative and experimental work is encouraged, nurtured, and promoted with enthusiasm by the instructors and other students for creating art for its own sake.

Our founders, Nikola Bjelajac and Steve Repa started the Forum Art Institute in September 1964. We have been in 8 locations throughout the city of Winnipeg and we currently lease our facility (since 1999) from the City of Winnipeg in a former city library building built in 1961. We are fortunate in creating a family atmosphere for art instruction and have students who have been with us for over 40 years and many generations even including great-grandchildren. Many artist alumni credit our organization for their start in the art world and art enhancing their life.

Sessional Art Classes We offer 3 ten-week sessions of art classes during the year; fall, winter and spring. Free studio time is included with all adult classes. Programming starts at 7 years old and our most senior student to date was 90 years young.
Summer Art Classes & Art Camps, Art Workshops We offer several five-week classes of art instruction during the summer months. Programming during the summer also includes art camps for children, teens & adults. We may offer unique art workshops throughout the year on days or weekends in art instruction or art enrichment.
Studio Time We offer various time slots for untutored studio time in our facility during our regular sessions. These vary according to the space availability during scheduled classes. We also offer 3 days of studio time throughout the summer.
Teen Bursary Awards In January 2000, we established a bursary program for 12 to 16 year old students. With contributions from donors to this special fund we have awarded anywhere from 3 to 6 bursaries for each of our 10 week sessions of classes.
Nik Bjelajac Scholarship Nik mentored many art students over the years as he wanted anyone to have the opportunity to experience the art process. After his passing in 2006, we continue to award one class per session to a financially challenged adult who is passionate in learning.
Forum Art Library & Instructional Resources Supporting our instructors and students with art resources is an important part of the learning experience. We have one of the best art reference libraries in the city due to the contributions of many of our former students, artists and their families.
